Office test & tag in Christchurch.
A practical way to inspect and test the plug-in electrical equipment used throughout your workplace. We agree the equipment list, access and timing, then provide labels and clear results.
What we can include
Accessible office appliances and separately testable leads. Final scope and suitable test methods depend on equipment construction, condition and manufacturer guidance. Tell us about unusual or sensitive equipment before the visit.
PAT stands for portable appliance testing: routine in-service inspection and appropriate testing of plug-in equipment.
Included
- Monitors, desktops and laptop chargers
- Printers and desk equipment
- Extension leads and portable power boards
- Kitchen appliances such as kettles, microwaves and toasters
- Identification labels for completed items, as appropriate
- PDF results and CSV asset register
Not included
- Fixed wiring, switchboards and electrical installation certification
- Appliance repair
- Servers, network equipment and UPS units (separate review)
- Industrial three-phase, medical or hazardous-area equipment
We refer beyond-scope work to an appropriately authorised provider.
Prepare for your visit
- Give us an approximate item count and site layout.
- Make plugs and leads accessible.
- Ask staff to save work and confirm who can authorise disconnections.
- Identify servers, network equipment, UPS units and any item that must remain powered. These need separate review and may be deferred.
Interruption and faults
Some testing requires equipment to be switched off and disconnected. We agree the sequence with you.
If an item fails, we notify your nominated contact and agree how it will be removed from use. Repair work is outside this service and should be handled by an appropriately authorised provider.

Common questions
Is test and tag mandatory for every office?
WorkSafe says test and tag is one way to check electrical equipment, rather than a blanket mandatory requirement. Equipment must still be electrically safe and maintained. Your situation may involve additional requirements; agree the appropriate approach for your workplace.
How often should equipment be tested?
There is no single interval for every workplace. Equipment type, use, environment and relevant requirements affect the plan. We discuss this when agreeing your scope.
Will equipment need to be turned off?
Some inspection and testing requires disconnection. We agree access and interruptions before the visit. Live servers and UPS systems may need a maintenance window or be deferred.
What happens if an item fails?
We record the result and notify your contact so the item can be removed from use. Repairs are outside this service and require an appropriately authorised provider.
