Server & infrastructure testing

Infrastructure testing planned around your change process.

Electrical inspection and testing for eligible IT assets, with scope, approvals and interruption requirements agreed first.

An important starting point

Live servers and UPS-supported systems cannot always be fully tested while operating. Testing may require shutdown, isolation or disconnection. Redundant supplies do not remove every dependency or risk.

If the approved method or access is unsuitable, affected items are deferred rather than recorded as passed.

Please do not disconnect servers, network devices or UPS systems to prepare for a visit.

Scope is equipment-specific

Eligible plug-in servers, external leads and accessible rack equipment may be considered after review. UPS systems and PDUs require individual assessment of configuration, manufacturer guidance and permitted methods. Some equipment will be deferred or referred.

Included

  • Discovery of assets, power paths and affected services with your IT lead
  • Change documentation for your approval process
  • Inspection and testing of eligible plug-in servers and external leads
  • Accessible rack equipment, after review
  • A register of tested, failed, deferred and excluded assets

Not included

  • Fixed wiring, switchboard work and electrical installation certification
  • Internal UPS servicing
  • Battery runtime, capacity or load-bank testing
  • Live electrical work
  • Backups, application shutdown and system recovery (your IT team)

We refer beyond-scope work to an appropriately authorised provider.

Plan before touching equipment

We work with your nominated IT lead to identify assets, power paths and affected services. The agreed plan names the change approver, permitted actions, work window, stop conditions and restoration checks.

Your IT team remains responsible for backups, application shutdown, system recovery and confirmation of service health.

Dual power feeds and redundancy do not automatically make disconnection safe. If the window expires or approval is absent, intrusive work stops; it is extended only with written authorisation.

How it works

  1. Discovery and scope

Review equipment, manufacturer guidance, power dependencies and shutdown requirements with your IT lead.

  2. Approved change window

Work proceeds only within the approved window, permitted methods and stop conditions.

  3. Record and report

Results, deferrals and limitations are recorded against your change reference.

What you receive

An agreed scope and work record, electrical test results where completed, and a register of tested, failed, deferred and excluded assets.

We record scope limitations and follow-up actions. A visual-only inspection is identified as such and is not presented as a completed electrical test.

Approval checklist before any intrusive work

Each item is confirmed in writing as part of the change plan.

  • Equipment scope and asset list
  • Manufacturer instructions for each asset type
  • Power dependencies and affected services
  • Shutdown requirements and permitted methods
  • Named change approver and IT lead
  • Approved maintenance window
  • Rollback plan and stop conditions
  • Restoration checks and service-health confirmation

Commercial basis

Infrastructure projects are quoted for discovery, change documentation, attendance and reporting. Proposed rates: discovery and change documentation NZ$120/hour (minimum 2 hours); on-site work NZ$140/hour (minimum 2 hours).

Waiting time, extensions and extra visits must be agreed in advance. Office per-item prices do not apply.

NZD, excluding GST; GST-inclusive quote supplied. Proposed launch prices; a written quote confirms scope, travel, timing and the final total.

Common questions

Will equipment need to be turned off?

Some inspection and testing requires disconnection. We agree access and interruptions before the visit. Live servers and UPS systems may need a maintenance window or be deferred.

Do you issue an electrical installation certificate?

No. Our agreed in-service testing records do not certify fixed wiring or an installation.

Can you work with our MSP?

Yes, by arrangement. Your nominated IT contact approves the shutdown and restoration plan, and confirms service health after the agreed work.

Our servers have dual power supplies. Can you test without downtime?

Not necessarily. Redundant supplies do not remove every dependency or risk, and dual feeds do not automatically make disconnection safe. We review power paths with your IT lead first; items that cannot be tested under the approved method are deferred rather than recorded as passed.
